Cammino Balteo (ENG)

The Cammino Balteo, as we read on the official website, is 'a timeless journey that lends itself to different thematic declinations'. We will tackle 2 stages together to experience a weekend immersed in the history and culture of the Aosta Valley.
The CAMMINO BALTEO is the exact transposition at lower altitudes of the 2 other routes in the Aosta Valley (the famous giants' tour), through which it is possible to complete a complete tour of the region in 23 stages in a mid-mountain environment.

Arpuilles, the starting point of our trip, is situated on a balcony overlooking the valley, and for the people of Aosta it is the ideal destination if you are looking for a bit of relaxation just a few minutes from the city, a 'Oscar-winning' scenic spot.

The stages we will tackle (Arpuilles-Vetan and Vetan-La Salle) are the last two on the sunny side of the Aosta Valley, and it goes without saying that as well as leaving a mark on the legs, they also leave one in the heart. A total distance of 33 kilometres and an up and down of more than 1,000 metres of positive height gain give a formidable Alpine touch to these hikes that are anything but boring (highest point, Lake Joux 1900 m). Amidst forests, mule tracks, vineyards and small villages, you will be able to turn your gaze towards the giants on the opposite slope: the triad of the Emilius, Becca di Nona and Grivola mountains will flit into the background, composing a breathtaking scenery!
At Vedun, Mont Blanc almost suddenly appears before our eyes for the first time. Satisfaction is double, since from here on it is all downhill to La Salle, the finishing point of this spectacular two-day event.

These two segments of the walk, apart from being the most elevated, are also the wildest.

Chambre d’hôtes l'Abri
A cosy restaurant with rooms where it is possible to enjoy traditional Valdostan home cooking with both meat and vegetarian dishes.
The restaurant is organised as follows: on the ground floor is the small common room, decorated with flowers and other wood carvings. On the upper floors are the rooms for rent. They are large and spacious, each with its own bathroom and shower, and some have a balcony. All enjoy a good panoramic view of the Gran Paradiso area and the Pila basin. Breakfasts are rich and abundant: with cakes, jams and sweet black bread, all homemade by Antonella, the friendly owner of the farm.

The activity is aimed at

Moderately trained hikers who can easily manage a walk with 800/1000 metres of altitude difference. The pace will be very leisurely, so you don't necessarily need to be super-fit, but rather a good motivation to walk even 6-7 hours a day is required.

Objectives of the activity

Exploring and discovering places to discover culture, nature and landscapes.

How the logistics are organised?
We will organise ourselves by trying to optimise the use of cars as best we can, possibly organising several meeting points depending on where the participants come from.
When we and the second walk day we will return by bus at start point.

I am not sure if I am able to walk for two consecutive days?
On the whole, the hike is neither difficult nor too demanding. No specific training is required, good motivation and a willingness to discover this area are sufficient to enjoy the experience with great satisfaction, even if a little tired..
